It's not in your head (and the people who love you should read this too)

If you've ever been told that what you're feeling is just stress, or that it's all in your head, this one is for you. And if you love a woman who's been trying to explain a change they can't quite name, this is for you too.

Here's the truth: the symptoms so many women struggle through in midlife are not imagined. They're physiological, driven by real and measurable hormonal changes and they're well documented in the research...I should know because I just took a deep dive into it.

Understanding that matters and not only for the women living it. Some of the most grateful replies may be from men who finally understand what their wife or partner has been trying to describe for years. When the people who love us understand what's actually happening, they show up better. So if that's you, keep reading, and consider forwarding this to someone who needs it.

Now let me tell you why I built what I built, because it's personal. First off, I have SOOOOO many friends in the perimenopause age group and I keep hearing about all the struggles they're experiencing. This made me want to understand it even better, even though I've been living with it myself for at least six years now.

When I had a hysterectomy back in 2007 I kept my ovaries, which means I don't have a period to use as a marker for changes. Most of the standard advice about perimenopause, all the cycle-tracking and the "watch for changes in your period" guidance, simply doesn't apply to me. I've had to figure out where I am in this transition using years of wearable data, quarterly bloodwork and a lot of paying attention. It made me realize how poorly served most women are when it comes to real, evidence-based information about what's happening to their bodies.

So I built the resource I wish someone had handed me: introducing my complete perimenopause series.

It's a full library of articles covering the questions I get asked most, each one grounded in research rather than the vague reassurance most of us get. A few of the pieces:

Not sure where you fall? Start with the quiz.

I built a short perimenopause quiz that walks you through your symptoms and helps you understand what you might be experiencing. It takes a couple of minutes and points you to the right resources based on your answers. It also comes with a free doctor visit prep kit, because walking into that appointment prepared changes the entire conversation.

Which brings me to the giveaway.

Since I mentioned that wearable data is how I've tracked this whole transition, the timing on this could not be better. This weekend I'm giving away a Hume Band, one of the wearables I use to track sleep, recovery and the overnight signals that tell me something when I don't have a cycle to go by.

The giveaway opens today and closes Sunday, so this is a short one. Enter now so you don't miss it: Enter to win a Hume Band →

If you want to know more about the band itself before you enter, my full Hume Band review breaks down what it tracks and how it compares to the others I've tested.

You're not imagining it, and you're not alone in it.

As always, hit reply and tell me which part of this transition has been hardest for you. I read everything and I always write back.

Have a great weekend,
Cheryl

P.S. Don't wait on the Hume Band giveaway, it closes Sunday night. Enter here, it takes about a minute. Good luck.

Today I want to tell you about what I used to do, because I rarely lay it all out and a reader recently ask my thoughts on fasting. For years I fasted every single day, eating within a compressed window. On top of that I did an assisted fast once a month and a 5 day fast every quarter. This wasn't a casual dabble...there is a lot of cancer in my family. I was focused on prevention and the science on fasting and autophagy, which is your cells' way of clearing out their own damaged parts....

September has a way of getting us back in to routine with children in school and the holidays coming, so this month’s High Protein Kitchen is built for exactly that. The theme is Back to Routine, and the whole month runs on Sunday batch cooking, packable lunches and dinners that turn into tomorrow’s lunch on their own. Inside you will find: All five weeks of the September plan at a glance, starting with a short on-ramp week on Tuesday, September 1. Every meal’s protein count, with daily...

There's something about late August that makes people want to begin. The kids are back in their routines, the calendar finally settles and that fresh-start energy usually saved for January shows up early. Every year around now I hear from people telling me the same thing...they know they should be strength training, they just don't know where to start, so they keep not starting. That was me forever too! If that is where your head is right now, this one is for you. I've spent over 30 years in...
